Q

What Is a Passkey?

A
This section explains how passkeys work, their benefits, and when they can be used.

What Is a Passkey?

A passkey is authentication information that functions like a “key” and is created and stored on your smartphone or PC.

By using this key together with the biometric authentication set on your device (such as facial recognition / Face ID or fingerprint recognition / Touch ID) or a PIN code (passcode), you can securely perform various operations on Coincheck.

This authentication method is called passkey authentication.

If your “email address and password” are your “door,” then a “passkey” is the “key” that unlocks that door.

Three Benefits of a Passkey

1. Strong security

Authentication is completed on your device.

Since authentication information is not transmitted to or stored by third parties, it is effective in preventing phishing scams and unauthorized logins.

2. Easy login

You can authenticate using facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, or similar methods. There is no need to remember a password, allowing you to log in quickly.

3. Usable on multiple devices

If you save your passkey to a cloud service (such as iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager), you can use it on multiple devices, including smartphones, PCs, and tablets.

When Passkey Authentication Can Be Used on Coincheck

On Coincheck, passkey authentication can be used for the following procedures (as of February 2026):

  • Logging in to Coincheck (app and web version)
  • Registering a cryptocurrency withdrawal address
  • Submitting a cryptocurrency withdrawal request

  • Adding an NFT withdrawal address

Operations That Require a Passkey

For operations other than those listed above, you can complete the procedure using other authentication methods even if a passkey is not set.
